The first time we met was to play tennis in August 2020. We were a good match on the court and ended up talking for an hour afterward before finally needing to part to get our days started. We played once more a few days later, again spending just as much time chatting as playing. We wanted more time for a deeper conversation, so we met up for a local hike, which would be the first of many long walks and deep talks. After the walk, still talking and putting off getting in our cars to go our separate ways, it started to rain and we jumped into Jeremy’s car to continue the conversation. Having maintained our six feet of social distance and only meeting outdoors up until then, we were officially in each other’s COVID bubbles and officially interested in seeing where this was going to go.
Over the next few months, we started our adventures together - bigger hikes, more tennis, exploring neighborhoods in and around Seattle. On our first overnight trip we went to a cabin on Whidbey Island to unplug during the November 2020 election - no news, no social media, just a record player, good meals, our first run together, and Yahtzee. On these adventures and in the small moments - singing together while making dinner, sharing old pictures, playing card games - we started to fall in love.
As the holidays approached, we realized they weren’t going to look anything like we thought and we started planning to spend our first Thanksgiving and Christmas together and doing virtual get togethers with our families in Arizona and Colorado. We rang in the new year celebrating Meg’s purchase of a new car on New Year’s Eve, eating take out sushi, and watching a musical - and a new tradition was born (minus purchasing a car). We had no idea what the new year would hold, but knew we were going to find out together.
As a healthcare worker, Jeremy got his vaccine earlier and recovered from the second dose over a long, snowy weekend at Megan’s apartment - and he never left, officially moving in in April. Meg was able to get fully vaccinated just in time to go with Jeremy on a trip to Colorado to surprise his parents first with the visit (and meeting Megan) and then with a retirement party.
Our relationship continued to grow as we experienced new things as a couple, including a lot of travel! We started in Savannah and Charleston, experiencing a humid southern summer, beautiful beaches, and amazing food. We camped on the Oregon coast with Meg’s friend from junior high, April, and her husband, Brett. We drove to Boise to spend a week riding bikes and swimming in lakes and rivers. In September we took a trip to visit/meet Megan’s family in Arizona and again visit Jeremy’s family in Colorado before working from Fort Collins for a few days and driving back to Denver through Rocky Mountain National Park. In October, we stopped over in Bend, OR on the way to a long weekend with Jeremy’s family to celebrate his cousin Annie’s wedding in Sonoma.

We knew early on that we wanted to get married and on those long drives and many trips, we started planning it. Jeremy came up with the idea that if we got married in early December, the wedding date could be a palindrome - and from then forward, 12.3.21 became our date. Neither one of us wanted a big wedding, so planning our intimate and intentional elopement was delightfully simple and everything came together so easily.
We picked the Oregon coast because it is beautiful in a way that speaks to both of us - rocky, tree-covered cliffs for Jeremy and the ocean and usually gray skies for Meg. Getting married on the Oregon coast in December is a bit risky weather-wise, but our wedding day was a gorgeous, sunny day. Our friends Brett and April joined us, Brett officiating and April giving a reading and serving as witness along with our photographer. The next day was back to winter storms and we spent our first day as a married couple with a stormy ocean view AirBNB doing a puzzle, eating clam chowder, and watching a movie. As a COVID couple, we’re just as good homebodies as we are adventure partners.
We ended 2021 with another split trip to Colorado and Arizona for the holidays, where we had to pretend to be unmarried for a few days in each spot before sharing our good news with each of our families. And then of course sushi and a musical.
We enjoyed our honeymoon in Mexico and moved to Bellingham, WA in April 2022. We look forward to the many adventures we'll have in the future. We'll continue updating more on our video page.
